Papaya Kuir: peers, not saviours

We work with trans refugees, asylum seekers, those without papers and basically people with many intersections of marginalisation. We are not saviours, but peers providing a lifeline to our communities.

For the longest time, others have spoken their truths about us. We are changing that narrative. We are showing that we – the queers and trans people from Abya Yala – have our own voice. We are very talented people, so much more than what the media want to say about us.

Part of our goal for the future is education for our communities, within our communities. The Spark Fund allowed us to create Oratoria Kuir, a two-day event in which members of our community learned new techniques on how to express themselves and gain confidence.
