A. OBJECTIVE OF THE JOB

The Digital media officer sits in the Money team and is responsible, together with the Senior Communications Coordinator, for creating high-quality digital content, supporting communications for campaigns and events, and ensuring that all communications outputs are aligned with Mama Cash’s brand, messaging, and visual identity. The Officer reports to the Senior Communications Coordinator. The Officer will contribute to the Money team objectives set out in the strategic guide and ensure that digital content and communications initiatives effectively support fundraising, influencing, and strengthen Mama Cash’s brand and visibility.

The focus of the position is developing and delivering engaging digital content in Dutch and English and supporting strategic communications including via our website and social media, ensuring all outputs strengthen Mama Cash’s visibility, credibility, and engagement with priority stakeholders. The priority is to make sure our external communications reach and engage the right audiences effectively. These priorities are stepping stones to achieving the objectives set out in Mama Cash’s 10-year strategic guide.

B. RESULT AREAS

I. Develop, edit, and publish content that aligns with Mama Cash’s messaging,
language guide, and visual brand across social media, newsletters, blogs, website,
and other digital channels.

  • Oversee, shape, and implement the social media strategy.
  • Develop and implement platform-specific content strategies in line with the
    communications and social media strategy of Mama Cash.
  • Manage Mama Cash’s social media accounts in Dutch and English to increase online presence, including web care and active engagement with followers.
  • Create, schedule, post, curate, and moderate content for social media accounts
    (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Bluesky, and others) and the website.
  • Work collaboratively across the organisation to identify, develop, and produce
    content that is compelling, readable, easy to understand, and tailored to specific
    audiences. This includes social media posts, articles, LOI window announcements
    and reminders, short videos, visual assets, and other multimedia formats.
  • Produce visual content for social media and contribute to other online engagement efforts.
  • Maintain and update the Mama Cash website with the support of IT.
  • Oversee (coordinate and plan) a new organisational newsletter to be sent to priority audiences.
  • Ensure alignment with visual identity of digital content, including social media,
    newsletters, and web materials.
  • Contribute to and produce content for newsletters, e-zines, brochures, and
    audiovisual materials, and other tools to increase the visibility of Mama Cash and
    its grantee-partners.
  • Implement impact storytelling by creating, editing, and publishing impact data
    and stories across digital channels (social media, blogs, newsletters) according to
    the approved content plan.
  • Actively engage with online communities and respond to audience interactions.
  • Research and implement new digital trends, tools, and social media channels to
    improve outreach.
  • Develop social media and community guidelines (including crisis communication)
    and provide training/support to colleagues.

    Result: High-quality, on-brand digital content that strengthens engagement, visibility, and supporter connection.

II. Ensure communications campaigns, event communications, and digital content are
strategically planned, implemented, and monitored to maximise results.

  • Implement social media plans for communications and fundraising campaigns, events, publications, and special projects, including web care to followers.
  • Update and maintain short- and long-term content calendars in close collaboration
    with senior officers.
  • Coordinate with fundraising and influencing teams to ensure digital event
    communications support strategic objectives.
  • Plan and implement strategic communications around key events, including
    narrative framing, audience targeting, and multi-channel roll-out.
  • Help set and track KPIs for campaigns, website, and social media,
    and monitor performance to inform strategy.
  • Monitor and analyse social media metrics on a regular basis and produce monthly
    reports with learnings to share with the communications team, as well as other
    reports as needed.
  • Analyse audience behaviours and preferences to optimise (social media and
    marketing) campaigns and media initiatives.
  • Monitor and report on conversations, brand mentions, and discourse in the
    feminist movement, across (social) media platforms to manage reputation and
    engagement.

Result: Well-managed, strategically aligned campaigns and event communications that
effectively reach target audiences, strengthen engagement, enhance visibility, and
support organisational goals.

III. Work with stakeholders to complete projects and achieve organisational goals in
support of Mama Cash’s priorities, including:

  • Collaborate closely with other members of the communications team, internal and external stakeholders, and vendors and suppliers to ensure consistent messaging and alignment of digital engagement efforts.
  • Implement, feedback, and support the continuous improvement of standard
    operating procedures and policies in coordination with the Senior Communications Coordinator in support of fundraising and influencing sub-teams, the Movements team and the Finance & Operations team.
  • Possibly serve as the communications resource person for external consultants
    conducting projects with Mama Cash.
  • Possibly hire and oversee proofreaders, copywriters, and other vendors to deliver
    content.
  • Take on any other tasks commensurate with the role as required by the leadership
    team.

    Result: A high-performing and supported sub-team that operates with agility and is aligned with Mama Cash’s strategic priorities to deliver on its goals.

C. KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

  • Bachelor-level degree or equivalent knowledge of communications or a relevant and related field and/or related work experience.
  • Strong commitment to feminism, social and environmental justice, and the rights of intersex people, trans people, girls and women.
  • Experience working in: foreign affairs, international relations and/or development communications; and/or public affairs, political and/or PR communications; and/or policy and advocacy communications; and/or socio-political and/or foreign affairs journalism.
  • Lived experience of resisting injustice and/or other forms of systemic oppression
    (including but not limited to sexism, racism, homo-antagonism, trans-antagonism,
    classism and disablism – and their intersections).
  • Knowledge of (funding) feminist movements, women’s, girls’, trans people’s and
    intersex people’s human rights, philanthropy and international development.
  • Ability to write persuasively for all audiences.
  • Specific experience in donor communications both individual and institutional.
  • Writing, editing, research and analytical skills.
  • Communications and interpersonal skills with the ability to interact with people
    from diverse backgrounds and cultures.
  • Project management skills and ability to meet multiple deadlines.
  • Command of Dutch (must be native speaker-level).
  • Command of English (must be native speaker-level).
  • Ability to work both independently and as a member of a team.
  • An ability to take the initiative, contribute actively to quick decision-making, and
    to organise work efficiently and effectively.

The monthly full time (36 hours) salary for this position depends upon experience and is based on CAO Sociaal Werk, scale 10 (min.) €  3.935,-  and maximum €6.321 plus 8% vacation, 13th month, and pension plan. Our office is centrally located in Amsterdam. We work on a hybrid model between the office and working from home.
