It’s almost that time of year again: International Women’s Day! On this day, we celebrate all that feminist movements around the world have fought for and achieved. We also look forward, collectively imagining what a more feminist future would look like. And what better way to envision and create that future than with the arts?
That’s why every year on March 8th, Mama Cash organises the Mama Cash Feminist Festival. We mark this day by creating a stage for feminist artists and activists, because as bell hooks says: “The function of art is to do more than tell it like it is – it’s to imagine what is possible.”
We invite you to join us at the Mama Cash Feminist Festival in locations throughout the Netherlands: Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, Centraal Museum (Utrecht) and WORM (Rotterdam). Join us to protest the status quo with visual art, music and performance. To celebrate the work of women artists who are pursuing their dreams and goals. To create a space of resistance, joy, support (and of course, dancing) that will exist not just for a day but continue to grow year-round.
The first International Women’s Day in 1911 was a protest – and today, it still is. But it’s a celebration, too. And we hope to share it with you!

Mama Cash Feminist Festival x RE#SISTER at WORM
In Rotterdam, we collaborate once more with the funky and fabulous WORM for their yearly RE#SISTER event. This year’s edition centers around the theme Bodies of Knowledge. A term that refers to the core teachings and skills required to work in a particular field or industry. But we also highlight the physical meaning: What do bodies communicate, what does a body represent? Every body needs space. But is every body allowed to take up space? Featuring:
- The annual tradition of pizza & cigars
- Olave Talks XL
- A zine workshop
- A Kiki function with Kiki House of Angels and Kiki House of Major
- A screening of the short film Juck, about the Swedish dance collective
- An immersive site-specific performance “Bird Bird, Touch Touch, Sing Sing” by sound and performance artists Nguyễn + Transitory
- And more!

Mama Cash Feminist Festival x Groningen
To celebrate International Women’s Day, the city of Groningen has an extravagant programme of activity and activism, kicking off with a revolutionary Morning Rave from 7 till 9 am! What will we rave about for the next 100 years? Which issues urgently need our advocacy? As anarchist feminist Emma Goldman said: if I can’t dance, I don’t want to be part of your revolution. Check out the full program here. Reservations via info@mamacashnoord.nl
