Spark Stories

We have interviewed activists from six different feminist groups that recently received a Spark grant. Mama Cash’s Spark portfolio supports the courageous work of marginalised communities in the Netherlands, and in Aruba, Bonaire, Curaçao, Sint Martin, Saba and Sint Eustatius, that are working to secure the rights of women, girls, trans people and intersex people. Activists do this work because (hetero)sexism, disableism, racism, fatphobia, patriarchal gender norms, and under-representation still exist in the Netherlands and on the ABC and SSS islands.

In the interviews, you will read about why feminist activism in the Netherlands is important, how activists are doing their work and what impact their activism is having. Photographer Sophia Maria Favela made the portraits visually complete. Through her photography, Favela wants to raise the visibility of under-addressed and contested issues and open a dialogue, just like the Spark partners.
