Changes at Mama Cash

With much gratitude, some sadness and anticipation for the future, I write to share my decision to leave Mama Cash in May 2017. I’m as committed as ever to our movements and to Mama Cash’s work, and I think the time is ripe for change.

I am choosing this moment for this leadership transition because I feel that Mama Cash is in a strong position to undergo such an important process. Given that I will have been at Mama Cash for ten years by the time I leave, my choice to move on in 2017 is also part of my commitment to make space for new leadership after a decade in my role as Executive Director.

I am proud of what we have collectively been able to contribute to women’s, girls’ and trans people’s rights and movements.

I am honoured to have learned, worked and created with our grantees, donors, allies and other partners. Together, we have seen Mama Cash grow and mature, and I feel that I have played my part in bringing the organisation to a place of greater strength and purpose. Mama Cash has a highly committed and capable staff and Board, deep knowledge of the field, a strong reputation among feminist and women’s rights communities and donors, valuable partnerships and optimism about the future.

Mama Cash is both more radical and more professional than ten years ago and I feel incredibly proud to have been a part of this.

I am convinced that the time is right to bring in a new leader to carry out and build upon our new strategic plan. I truly believe that it is time for a fresh perspective, renewed energy, and new ideas and leadership to work with our donors, partners and grantees to bring Mama Cash into its next phase.

In the coming weeks and months, the Board will be recruiting the new Executive Director. More details about the transition plan and process will be shared as they develop.

My commitment and support to Mama Cash will not waiver. I see the strength and determination of feminist movements around the world and am convinced that our collective action is more important than ever.

And I look forward to celebrating Mama Cash’s future achievements with you.

With respect and appreciation,

Nicky
