Board statement about Nicky McIntyre's departure

Following Nicky’s announcement of her departure from Mama Cash in 2017, the Board would like to take this opportunity to celebrate the many transformations and milestones achieved at Mama Cash under her leadership.

Nicky’s vision and heart, building on the determination of our grantee-partners around the world, the dedication of our excellent staff and senior management, and the commitment of all our donors, has led Mama Cash to new heights and brought significant changes and growth.

  • Nicky led significant changes in Mama Cash’s programmatic work, inspiring the development and implementation of new strategies and thematic approaches to our work.
  • Her efforts resulted in tremendous growth, with Mama Cash’s grantmaking increasing over threefold during Nicky’s tenure.
  • She had been uniquely talented at and committed to forging new and innovative partnerships to advance women’s rights and influence stakeholders to do the same.
  • She also dared to engage in many bold new adventures, such as leading Mama Cash and our partners in creating and hosting the Red Umbrella Fund.

Nicky has built a legacy of trust and transparency – and good humour – among her peers and has been dedicated to bringing the voices of the women, girls and trans* people to the fore to speak for themselves. With her dedication and commitment and through her inspirational leadership, she leaves Mama Cash both more professional and more radical than when she arrived. And we, the Board, and the staff will miss her terribly.

The Board of Directors has formed a Transition Committee  and will launch recruitment efforts in December 2016 to bring on a new Executive Director by mid-2017. Updates will be shared on Mama Cash’s website.

Please join us in thanking Nicky for her work and wishing her the best in her next bold adventures!
