Announcing the 2017 With and For Girl Award Winners

The With and For Girls Collective is proud to announce the 20 recipients of the 2017 Awards: 20 girl-led organisations being recognized this year in tackling gender discrimination, violence & inequality affecting girls all over the world.

What is the With and For Girls Awards?

It is a global initiative which identifies and supports strong, local organisations working with and for girls.

The awards don’t focus on a particular theme, but are instead open to organisations with a range of development outcomes – from health and education to challenging negative attitudes toward girls in their schools, families and communities.

What matters is that the awards identify effective, girl-driven organisations working to change the lives of – and the enabling environments for – adolescent girls where they live.

Award winners work on a variety of thematic issues and have demonstrated strengths in engaging girls in governance, programme design and decision-making to ensure that their work really is girl-led.

Tackling pressing issues relating to women and girls today.

A feature of the awards is their insistence on the participation and agency of girls throughout the process.

In addition to working with networks and thought leaders knowledgeable about girls’ rights and programming, a group of adolescent girls also have provided meaningful input throughout the selection process.

The awards seek to amplify the voices of those less often heard – the voice of girls, the voice of locally-led development efforts.

Winners of the With and For Girls Awards receive flexible funding of up to US $50,000 and capacity building support. They will also join an existing network of inspiring past award winners, funders, organisations and individuals from the girls’ and women’s rights sector.

We’re thrilled to see the work of three of our grantee-partners recognized on this incredible list of girl-led organisations: Ponton Group of Sex Educators (Poland), Association des Mamas Célibataires pour la Paix et le Développement (Burundi) and Mujeres de Xochilt (El Salvador)

All 20 award-winning organisations will be celebrated at an awards ceremony in London on 14 November.
